:: JTRA MISSION STATEMENT ::

"The Multitude" - And if you spend yourself in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. Isaiah 58:10.

HISTORY / HOW IT ALL BEGAN:

Debra W. South was a disabled mother of two.  Debra knew what it meant to struggle.  She also knew how it felt to "have too much money to receive assistance and not enough money to make ends meet".  She was blessed with family and friends who were there for her and her children. They assisted her with food, money, or whatever the need was.

Debra and those faithful friends prayed, discussed, and agreed to do something to help the community. Their prayers became a reality on May 3, 1999, the establishment of Just The Right Attitude.

Just the Right Attitude opened its door in September 2001 as a food bank.  The food bank services people in the Greater New Orleans area and some parts of Mississippi.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY:

Our hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.

We are no longer in disaster mode, but in the early stages of recovery. To utilize our food bank you must bring one of the following: a current utility for example: (a light bill, water bill, telephone bill, rent receipt, mortgage coupon, FEMA trailer papers) and a current Louisiana Driver's License or State Identification.

JTRA's Kitchen serves hot lunches to the community free of charge since they are still trying to rebuild , and get their homes , and lives together. We also are serving a large population of homeless people. Many of the homeless have jobs, but do not make enough money to pay the high rent, so they and their children are living on the streets of New Orleans. We serve lunch Monday through Thursday from 11:30 to 1:30 pm to those that qualify. This service now includes a Senior Citizen Extra Hot Meal, for 55 years and older. Therefore, they will have a plate for lunch, and one for dinner.

Additionally, JTRA is now serving Hot breakfast on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 10:00 am

WHAT WE DO - THE NUMBERS:

In 2007 JTRA distributed 4.187 million pounds of food.
We distributed groceries to 252,194 families for a total 517,800 individuals.

We cooked and served 127,181 hot meals in 2007.

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

Since I came back October 2005; I have kept my promise to God, and so have my organization. It has been difficult at times, but we made it through the rough times as well as the good times. We manage to assist everyone that crossed our path who has allowed us to assist them. Now 2008 is upon us, and we all are still trying to recovery from Katrina and Rita. Personally my family and I are still struggling, but God has told me to continue to fight, and to hope, and to dream for a better New Orleans. This organization will continue to assist The Greater New Orleans Area. No problem is never to big or to small for the children of God.

"Remember You Can Overcome Any Obstacle With Just The Right Attitude"

Be Blessed
